The first step - background information for patients...

Before you make any plans to travel to Greece, we may require a referral from your local doctor or gynaecologist, indicating the current problem and details of previous investigations. Once we have received your referral and registration information, we will be in touch to discuss how to proceed further.

Initial testing:
The following tests would be useful to have before you arrive in Athens:

The Female partner:
• Rubella status
• Hepatitis C
• Hepatitis B
• HIV
• Syphilis
• Scan of the pelvis

The male partner:
Recent semen analysis
• Hepatitis C
• Hepatitis B
• HIV
• Syphilis

Any other information relevant to your problem should be provided by your local referring doctor.

Length of stay in Greece
The length of your stay in Greece depends on how much of your cycle monitoring can be done in your own country before arrival here.

Where to stay
A wide range of accommodation is available in Athens, from five-star resorts to budget accommodation. Your local travel agent may be able to assist. If you have problems, please let us know and we will be happy to provide a number of options.

How much will it cost
Because every couple presents with unique requirements, each requires an individual approach for their IVF treatment cycle. Therefore, the costs for each couple can vary considerably.
The cost of treatment with us will include:

• all ovarian ultrasound scanning and pathology required during the monitoring of the ovarian stimulation
• in-hospital costs (for the oocyte collection)
• any associated anaesthetic fees (for the oocyte collection)
• fees for the Infertility Specialist (for all consultations and procedures, including the oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer)
• all IVF Laboratory costs during the IVF treatment cycle (including the oocyte retrieval, sperm preparation, embryo culture and embryo transfer).
• Assisted Hatching if required.

These fees do not include

• An extra fee for sperm injection procedure (ICSI) if required.
• FSH injections and associated drugs required for the ovarian stimulation.
• The freezing of embryos or semen, or their subsequent storage if required.

We cannot guarantee a pregnancy, but we will strive to give you every chance of success

The truth of the matter is that it is very difficult to determine the exact cost. As a rough guide though, IVF treatment in Greece can reach 3000 euro.
The cost though that is quoted at any one IVF center does not include the "fertility drugs" which depending on which protocol is used and which make of drug is recommended. Therefore it is wise to find out approximately how many days of the drug regime are required in your case and the cost of each injection of hormone.

The tests that are required prior to IVF treatment such as semen analysis (which usually is performed once), blood oestradiol test and ultrasound scans (several times are needed) may be included in the initial price.
Also, an extra cost after embryo transfer may be cryopreservation of "spare" embryos.

Differences in IVF treatment may occur according to the method of fertilization: ICSI (Intracytoplasmic sperm injection) used for the treatment of severe male infertility tends to be more expensive than "Classic IVF".

The National insurances in Greece unfortunately cover only a small part of the treatment but may pay for the cost of the drugs (provided you have been judged illegible for IVF treatment by completing the required tests).
